This summer program is presented by a partnership between the CalArts Community Arts Partnership (CAP) and the Santa Clarita Public Library (SCPL). CAP is a program of California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), and offers free after-school and school-based arts programs for youth in every discipline taught at the Institute. We invite you to sign up for our CalArts x SCPL Summer Workshops in Graphic Design and Animation! Sign up for an eight-week workshop in either Animation or Graphic Design taught by CalArts alumni and students. Eligible participants must reside in the SC Valley area and be a current student in grades 6+. Past experience is not required. Classes are 100% free. Classroom art supplies will be available for every student.
PLEASE APPLY BY MAY 22. Some students may be placed on a waitlist. You will be notified of your enrollment status and emailed class details by May 31 at the latest. All class meetings will take place in person at:

This hands-on workshop explores topics such as composition, the principles and elements of design, typography, collage, and various forms of image-making.

Some of the topics that will be covered in this workshop are stop motion animation, drawn animation, character design, puppet fabrication, editing, sound design, lighting, and more.
